~wiggle~ in all circumstances. even da bad stuff. - ferretzen
"sam, do you mean even when i find out i'm gonna die?" this just in from Mary, my detractor. great question, Mary. and i still have nothing against tractors.
Mary, we are all gonna die. it's not "if" we die, but when. and yes, we can still ~wiggle~
powerful spiritual forces which i discarded or ignored for years are appreciation and gratitude. what i thought they meant was when someone did something good for me, or was generous, than i should say thankyou. NO! that's just good manners.
appreciation and gratitude work even in the bad times; they transcend good manners and work in all circumstances. we can be miserable, we can isolate, we can sit around really wallow in it. or we can be appreciative of the moment. obstacles lead to opportunities. energy and endorphins are released in overcoming.
"History has demonstrated that the most notable winners usually encountered heartbreaking obstacles before they triumphed. They finally won because they refused to become discouraged by their defeats. Disappointments acted as a challenge. Don't let difficulties discourage you." B.C. Forbes, Scottish Financial Journalist
in the Bible, in Thessalonians we read: "In all things give thanks"..... we can find this axiom in almost all cultures, beliefs and throughout history. no one system has a monopoly on gratitude and appreciation as spiritual forces. the fact that millions and billions of folks thru the ages have utilised these forces is proof they work.
when the annoyer comes at us today, when the trouble set's in, when the bad news arrives, unlock the power of gratitude; unleash it's force within you, and give thanks, be appreciative of the opportunity. be grateful that you have the knowledge of gratitude, if nothing else. be grateful for the opportunity to grow.
~wiggle~ even for da bad stuff.

Gratitude overcomes many things. We all have something important to be grateful for!
ReplyDeleteIn everything give thanks... God gives us an opportunity out of learning and growing from the most difficult of times. There is always a silver lining underneath that dark cloud.
ReplyDeleteGratitude is such an amazing thing. ;) Thanks for these encouraging words.

Very nice! Gratitude is such a joyous state of mind, heart, and soul. I found it at the bottom of a black hole. It lifted me out and has kept me going ever since. @lizamartz

I love this blog, Sammy. Some of the greatest blessings have come from my misfortunes. Just the other day, I was thinking how much I resemble the Vicar of -- I just spent half an hour trying to find the title -- anyway, the vicar who was fired because he couldn't read so he opened a cigar shop and eventually had a huge enterprise. If you know the title, I would love for you to remind me what it is. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for your post, Sammy. You're always a calm oasis of wisdom.

ReplyDeletewell PiperBayard, you can certainly read and write. it strikes me that the Verger went after a smoke to ease his troubles, and couldn't find one. and your post sounds as if you were looking for a smoke, and your found one here in the post. and for that i am grateful, that it eased your mind. now you can go out there and find your fortune!
ReplyDeleteas to the half hour invested, it paid off!! The Man Who Made His Mark (Later Retitled "The Verger") by W. Somerset Maugham http://www.sinden.org/verger.html

Thank you so much, Sammy! I got the vicar mixed up with the verger and was looking for The Vicar of St. Peter's. You can see why that didn't work out so well. And yes. I know I can always find a smoke here. Thank you for the oasis you provide. Many pop tarts to you. :)
ReplyDeleteTwo years later, Sammy, I'll still say it. I can always find a smoke at the oasis you provide. When I list my blessings, you are at the top. Thank you for all you do to spread sunshine and pop tarts. :)
DeleteHi Sammy, read this just yesterday Jan 29th ~ for me been really tough time being impacted & then maintaining gratitude in all things & an especially difficult time of it since Nov 1st of 2011.
ReplyDeleteIt is the mastery of achieving this state of consistent gratitude that has been revealed as being a major life lesson for me in this earthly journey. I wasn't ready to comment yesterday, I needed to process a bit. I did find my 'brain elusive' biblical source for 'give thanks in all things'....it is I Thessalonians 5:18. I think it fits in rather well with your quote Sam: "~wiggle~ in all circumstances. even da bad stuff. - ferretzen"

Now Ima got to figure out how to tweet @OlCracker this week's song challenge based on the concept of your blog post Sammie! Luv ya, I'm @grammakaye on twitter.
so glad you looked it up. i thought that hinting at it might get someone looking, Gramma. and you did!! so grateful that you found the exact verse. now, i think it was Og Mandino in his book "Greatest Salesman in the World" ( a bit of a tease there, he simply means to be a great communicator, we need to ask questions and listen. he's not talking about being pushy, he's talking about LISTENING ) anyway, it was Og Mandino's book many years ago, that opened my eyes to the idea that powerful spiritual truths transcend culture, belief systems, nationality. he wrote this about another axiom: "this too shall pass" has been found in over 200 languages and written innumerable times in so many historical and religious books, that no one person or belief system can take credit for it!! it's simply a spiritual principle that works!!!
Deleteand so it is with gratitude. we can use it to turn the terrible moments around.

Great post, something we all need to remember. Here's an awesome Ted talk about that very thing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLJsdqxnZb0&feature=youtu.be (am I allowed to post a youtube video?)
ReplyDeleteHowever, I think you've given corporations the idea of copyrighting gratitude. When that happens I am marshalling your followers and we will come to your house with pitchforks.

not too long ago, Blog spot made it difficult to reply, so I didn't. now I have to go back to hundreds of comments and let people know that i care. since the world revolves around me, since I AM THE HANDSOMEST FERRET on da planet, that seems like a whole lotta work!! better to be self centered, selfish, and narcissistic isn't it? then i can lounge by da swimmy pool baff, and sip my blueberry juice!!!
Deletenow, as for giving Corporations the idea of selling gratitude, i doubt i have given them any grand schemes. or that they can copyright such a thing. it would also appear, since the TED conferences are geared toward the rich and famous, or at least led by them, that they might wish they could profit from such a simple force; but not this critter, nope.
which of course begs the issue: since it's such a powerful force would it be so bad if they profited from it? if the entire planet stopped being miserable, and started being centered, and well rounded, would it be such a bad thing? even if some rich corporations profited along the way?
mmmmmm not that i would approve, but whatever works, right?
see ya in the funny papers.
No, it wouldn't be bad if they profited from it. But if they find a way to make us all pay them when we express gratitude in public, that will be an issue for me. We will have to take Gratitude Underground (I will now start a band with that name) and have a thankfulness revolution.
